    Thanks,
I usually run 4 rods. On my two outside rods I’ll have pro trolls with cut plug superbaits or the original superbaits. On my two inside rods I’ll use protrolls with a 3.5 spinner instead of the superbaits. I haven’t used real cut plug herring or other real bait with this setup.

the smaller 3.5 spinners work really well behind the pro troll flasher. Simon spinners are good but I prefer VIP tackle spinners.

11Ē Pro Trolls with Super Baits and Cut Plugs was a quiet dirty secret down here for years, SOP on the Columbia.

The big #5 and #6 spinners we use down here pull too hard and kill the action on the Flasher. Agree with the earlier post on using smaller #3/#4 spinners similar to the PNW guys. The Addicted Fishing YouTube channel has a couple of solid tutorials on big river trolling.

Re: Thoughts on Flasher in front of Silvertron?

Iíve used a kone zone, big als, fish flash just after the spreader and before the spinner. A couple of thoughts. Longer leader as they put off a lot of flash, I tend toward the high side of 5 feet. Longer dropper has worked for me. As stated it can get expensive. I have caught fish here with them and without. I use more lead though with an inline flasher. Also need bead chain in front and behind the flasher. I also use 5 beads behind my sliding dropper line before the first bead chain to give better separation. VIP tackle makes a line lock for this that is very useful.

Also try Using a pro troll 11 inch setup but switch out the cut plug or original super bait for a 3.5 spinner. Look up Simon spinners or VIP tackle and check out their spinners. Have caught a few this way when running that setup. Usually will have 2 cut plugs and 2 spinners when running pro trolls. Havenít seen anyone else doing this but it is super common up north.

    Good Luck

Re: Thoughts on Flasher in front of Silvertron?

I use an inline weight instead of a splitter, so Iíve thought about setting up the largest smile blade before or directly after the weight. Would have to try both ways to see which works without causing issues and see how much drag is created.

But, itís hard to try something new and possibly risk/waste precious fishing time when your proven trolling setup works quite well......prime salmon season is short.

Interesting. Where would the Smile blade go? Right before the spinner? Halfway up the leader? Or before all the rigging including the spreader?

Re: Thoughts on Flasher in front of Silvertron?

I am sure someone has tried it. The bigger question though: is it a successful combo? No one is really talking about it so either it is not working or is working so well, no one wants to let the secret out. Fishermen can be great at with holding info so they are more successful.

Instead of using those flashers, I have always thought a large smile blade in front of a spinner might be a good alternative.

Re: Thoughts on Flasher in front of Silvertron?

I don't run flashers or dodgers when I am in the Sac river trolling for salmon because i hate picking the grass out of my gear. It's just one more thing that might catch grass or weeds or other junk, but after my last outing, I think I would be open to trying them out.

I don't like to do that, just more gear to lose if you hang up. You can do it, but not sure it's beneficial at all.
