Re: San Luis go to trolling lure

Its been a tough bite lately but pretty normal for this time of year. The dropping water isnt helping either. Mid November is usually when the lake tends to rebound.

As for lures, most stickbaits or large shad baits work well in a variety of colors. The one main thing with San Luis is finding the fish. You can have the perfect lure on but if you cant find them, it will be a tough day.

Hey, thanks. That definitely makes me feel a lot better knowing that it's going to get better. I've fished the forebay in the past only when the big lake was closed and we caught a couple there, but only at anchor.

Re: San Luis go to trolling lure

Well, just spent all day on San Luis with family trolling a variety of gear, different depths and different locations throughout the lake and not a single hit. Beautiful day and lots of boils (I did toss some topwater but to no avail). Never even seen a single striper caught by anyone on the troll but a few from anchored boats. Talked to a couple of guys back at the ramp and said the same thing, nada. But they did say a couple of weeks the bite was hot. Wife did say it was a great day of fishing, just the same.

    Rapalas work.

When the pumps come on you will see boats clustered out there dropping metal spoons and bait rigs

How do you troll an umbrella rig from a kayak? Any little bit of a technique would be appreciated. I'm taking my wife and daughter out this Saturday with hopes a boating a few. I have umbrella rigs but have never caught anything from one.
