Topaz Opener. Weather variable, fishing excellent.

It's January 1 and a trip to Topaz opener is in order. Jeff, Efren and I head south at 0530 to start the new year off. This year we are fishing the west shore south of the lodge. This is a private beach owned by some friends of Jeff. The morning was cloudy but not so cold. The day saw sun, rain and some pretty good wind. We were unsure how the fishing would be but it turned out great. We got 20 trout between us and 15 went home for the smoker. All trout were 14 - 18 inch Topaz Bows with the exception of one Bowcutt. We started out being the only ones fishing this nice beach. Because there was no Topaz Derby this year it seemed that the opening crowds were much less than usual. 2020 is off to a good start. Thanks for the ride guys. Topaz may well have another banner year.
