    Bluegill Hook Sizes: Size 4,6,8
    Crappie Hook Sizes: 1,2,4

    Where are you camping at?

Sorry for the 'newb' question; I'm more of a pier rat but I'm going camping at a place with a lake and I'd like to try to get some fishing done there.

What size hooks would you normally use when targeting bluegill or crappy?

All areas of the California freshwater delta system have a healthy population of black/white crappie, bluegills, and other species of sunfish.

One particular area is Franks Tract and Sandmound Slough located in Bethel Island.

Sandmound Slough has great habitat for crappie and bluegills. This area is well protected from the wind versus Franks Tract that is open water and is subject to problems fishing in the wind.

Sherman Lake area is another area for good crappie and bluegill fishing when the wind is calm.

During the winter time, we use to sink small dead trees/brush with cinder blocks in pockets of certain sloughs, Sandmound Slough in particular... out of the way of watercraft travel, of course, then come back during the spring and summer months to have a blast nailing crappie one after another in the 1-2 lb. range. :o

Hey yeah I caught some really fat, heavy Red Ear and Bluegill that were spawning.

I caught them at a local pond. One of them must of been at almost 2lbs. Others were huge and full of eggs.

You could see them spawning, must of been at least 15 or more nice size ones all hanging out.

MY TIP: They really love Black Roostertails!

Good job! I found a nice pond in Elk Grove that has crappie. I was looking for bass and the crappe started hitting...Rancho Seco has good panfish right now off the docks. Amador is also bangin' right now.
