The Report from Ben and Shawn
Ben Mechling and Shawn Taylor of Reel Addiction Sportfishing have been hitting the water around Pittsburg, California, for some scouting trips and calling it just a success might be an understatement. On March 1st, a three-man charter managed to boat nine sturgeon, which is a hell of a day by any standard. Not to be outdone, their follow-up trip on March 3rd was absolute non-stop action, ending with a staggering seventeen sturgeon brought to the boat. Seventeen! Ben and Shawn are running separate boats that can handle up to six people each, so there is plenty of room to get a crew together and get in on this bite while it is happening.
The Month of March
Because the scouting has been so productive, they are officially offering sturgeon trips for the entire month of March. These prehistoric fish are some of the most unique and hard-fighting species we have in California waters, and they are currently stacked up and ready to play. Whether you are fishing with Ben or Shawn, you are getting a guide who knows exactly where these giants are holding. If you have been waiting for the right time to get out on the water and see what these armored bottom-dwellers are all about, this window in March is looking like your best bet.
A Once in a Lifetime Pull
Hooking into one of these fish, especially for first-timers, is a true once-in-a-lifetime kind of experience. There is nothing quite like the thrill of feeling that initial heavy throb on the line followed by the sound of a screaming reel as a monster sturgeon decides to head for the horizon. The sheer power and weight behind their pull is something you have to feel to believe. These fish are living fossils, and seeing one up close is a memory that sticks with you forever. If you want to experience that adrenaline rush for yourself, give Ben or Shawn a call and get your spot on the calendar before March fills up.
