Rainbow Trout, Bass Highlight Winter Fishing

ANGELS CAMP – Fishing pressure has tapered off at New Melones with the recent round of winter storms muddying up the water, but anglers in boats are catching good numbers of rainbow trout when they find clearer water to fish.

“New Melones doesn’t disappoint,” said Kyle Wise after his final fishing trip of 2025 on December 30. “We made the run this morning with four clients to find some clean water to fish. after looking for a bit we found some greenish water and set gear and had consistent action to fill our 20 fish limit by 11:00 am. Most fish were caught in the top 25’ pulling spoons and wiggle hoochies.”
