The Report from Tom Mailey
Tom Mailey from Get The Net Fishing Guide Service checked in with some killer news from the end of February. Folsom Lake is staying busy, and the action is steady enough to keep any angler happy. On the 26th, he went out with Mark who managed to bag his limit while the duo released another six or seven fish back into the drink. Most of the action happened right on the surface using pink, orange, and white Trout Trix. Even though the downriggers only saw a couple of hits, they accounted for the two biggest fish of the day: one on a chrome and orange Speedy Shiner at 13 feet and another on a white Optimizer at 20 feet.
Timing and Location
The bite stayed strong right in front of the dam from 8:30 until about 10:30 in the morning. Once things cooled off there, a quick move to First Cove near the South Fork entrance produced the final two fish of the trip within twenty minutes. It's a solid mix of planters and wild fish right now. Tom mentioned they released all the wild ones, only keeping one because it was unfortunately gill hooked. Needless to say, the trout action is productive.
Late February Finish
By the 27th, the pace slowed down just a touch for Tom's clients Jim and his son Stephen, but they still put three in the box. They ended the day with five kept and four released, plus a few missed strikes that kept them on their toes. Tom noted that the dam has started letting water out lately. Either way, if you are looking to get on the water, Folsom is definitely the place to be right now.
